Introduction.

My name is Sam, and I’m looking to play college golf in the US, starting in Fall 2025.

Although college golf wasn’t option for me after high school, I have worked hard on my game over the last few years, and reached a level where I am competing regularly in top amateur events.

In 2024, I won the Lothians Amatuer Championship, coming through 2 rounds of strokeplay and 4 rounds of matchplay. I also placed in the top 10 at the North of Scotland Amatuer Championship held at Royal Dornoch, and qualified for the Scottish Amatuer Strokeplay at Muirfield.

I feel my game has improved in all areas recently, and I’m confident that this can translate to good scoring in the US.

Interview.

What age did you start playing golf and why ?

As soon as I could walk pretty much, both my parents and all of my grandparents are golfers so it was bound to happen at some point.

How would you say you have developed as a golfer over the past few years ?

I’ve put a lot more effort into my game over the last few years. I have definitely learnt to relax on the course more and accept whatever outcome happens. I think this has come as my confidence has grown in my ability and my swing, and also becoming more confident as a person. I have also learnt to manage my way round courses, and when to take certain shots on versus playing slightly safer. This has definitely helped my scores come down and kept bigger numbers away from my card if I get out of position.

Who is your favourite golfer and why ?

I would say Tommy Fleetwood. I’ve met him a few times and he’s so relaxed and outgoing away from the course, but also has the ability to lock in and produce when it matters most, especially in Ryder Cups.

What do you intend to study and why ?

I’d like to study an MBA or Masters in International Business. I think it would be really useful moving forward, and would allow me to specialise my skills that I have learnt throughout my undergraduate degree.

Other than golf what else do you enjoy doing and why ?

I’ve got back into playing tennis more since I moved to uni a few years ago. I play football as well, and enjoy going to the gym. I also go to a lot of football matches, following the (mis)fortunes of Leeds United.
